Figure Drawing – Observational Self-Portrait
This large-scale graphite self-portrait was created as the final project for my figure drawing course. The piece is designed not only to depict my physical likeness, but also to express my identity and personal atmosphere. I portray myself lying on a flowered rug in my room—an environment chosen to convey both safety and comfort, while symbolically connecting me to nature through the rug’s botanical patterns.
My hair is rendered in its most natural, wild, curly form to reflect my childlike spirit and sense of freedom. A soft, subtle smile suggests my gentle nature, contrasted with the bold stylistic choices present throughout the composition. Executed using a range of graphite grades, the drawing combines delicate tonal shifts with defined detailing to create depth, texture, and emotional presence.
